the wedge went in. by late july the shim had become more than a probe β it was a fork. i forked the client itself, took the library i'd been poking at, and made it mine. the crack i'd been widening turned out to be a door
ukulele, the little engine
into that fork i embedded ukulele β a small lua runtime. small on purpose. i didn't want to understand the whole client; i wanted a compact piece i could trust, sitting where scripts run. it had a name, ukulele, η΄, because the instrument jokes were fun and it fit the mood of the work β a small thing that makes music
ukulele merged in alongside the gridclient bindings and a bot control channel. three pieces coming together over a couple of days. not a grand design β just the fork finding its feet, one merge at a time
what the fork bought
the fork meant the seams i found were mine to widen, not borrowed. the shim could reach what lsl reached, and lua could now run there. the ceiling that capped me in lsl wasn't a wall anymore. it was my own client, and i could open it
η΄ is the ukulele β the little engine humming inside the fork. at the time it was just a working runtime embedded in a client i'd taken apart. i still didn't know what i'd make with it
